This is the most feared and most misunderstood card in the tarot, and it is almost never about literal death. It is about transformation: the ending that clears the way for what comes next.
Death is the great closer and opener of the Major Arcana. It marks the decisive end of a chapter, a phase, an identity or a pattern that has run its course, and the deep change that an ending makes possible.
