What a birth chart actually is
The moment you drew your first breath, the sky above you held one exact arrangement: the Sun in a particular sign, the Moon at a precise degree, every planet placed just so. A few minutes earlier, or a hundred miles away, and it would have been different. That single configuration is your birth chart.

What is a birth chart?
A birth chart, or natal chart, is a precise map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It records where the Sun, Moon and every planet sat across the twelve zodiac signs and twelve houses. Astrologers read that single arrangement as a portrait of your character, not a script for your life.
What do I need to calculate mine?
Three things: your birth date, your birth time and your birth place. The date sets your sun sign and most planetary positions. The time and place are what unlock your rising sign and the houses, which is where a chart stops being general and becomes truly yours.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
You can still learn a great deal. Your Sun, Moon and planetary signs are intact without a time. It is the rising sign and the house placements that depend on it, so an approximate time gives an approximate frame, and a known time gives the full picture.
Is a birth chart the same as my horoscope?
No. Your birth chart is fixed: the sky of your birth, read once and yours for life. A horoscope is about the sky right now, and how the moving planets of today touch your chart. Astrocristal reads both, the chart that is you, and the sky as it moves.
