The fast planets set the mood of a week. The slow ones set the backdrop of years. In 2026 two of the slowest, Saturn and Neptune, moved into Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, and on Friday 20 February 2026 they met at its very first degree. Astrologers have been waiting for this one for a long time, because it is both a conjunction of two slow planets and the start of a new lap of the zodiac.

A meeting that happens once in a generation

Saturn takes about 29 years to go round the zodiac and Neptune about 165, so the two line up only every few decades. The previous conjunction was on Friday 3 March 1989, at 11 degrees of Capricorn, 37 years before this one. This time it happened right at 0 degrees Aries, the point the tropical zodiac is measured from, which is why it is being described as a beginning rather than a continuation.

How astrologers read the two planets

Saturn is the planet of structure: time, limits, responsibility, the things that hold up under pressure and the things that do not. Neptune is its opposite: dreams, ideals, faith, imagination, and also confusion and illusion. When they meet, the tradition reads it as a moment when ideals have to take a real shape, and when structures that were built on illusion are tested.

Aries adds its own character. It is the sign of beginnings, courage and the self, fast and direct. Saturn in Aries is traditionally read as learning patience and discipline in how you act and assert yourself; Neptune in Aries as a new kind of ideal about who we are as individuals. Astrologers tend to describe the whole stretch as the end of one long cycle and the first steps of the next, which is, in fairness, exactly what the geometry is.

Slow-planet periods are read collectively first. They are said to colour the background for everyone, and to become personal only where they cross the planets and angles of your own birth chart.

What it could mean for you

If you were born under Aries, both planets are crossing your sun sign over these years, and the tradition would say this is a period of rebuilding who you are and what you stand for. If you have planets in the early degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn, astrologers would say you feel it most, because those are the degrees these planets aspect first. For everyone else it depends on which house of the chart Aries occupies, which needs a birth time to know.

None of this predicts events, and anyone who tells you exactly what a slow transit will do to your life is guessing. What it offers is a frame for questions worth asking in these years: what are you building, what are you still dreaming about without building, and which of the two needs your attention? A full reading places Saturn and Neptune in your own chart, and our Saturn in Aries page covers the natal placement.
